Africa’s leading femme in music, Tiwa Savage is trending for what appears to be an indecisive reason.
The mother-of-one who just dropped her SugarCane EP is presently on media rounds to promote the project.
While on an interview with Toolz of the Beat 99.9 FM, part of the topical issues discussed was gender equality. As opposed to taking the feminist stance just as expected, Tiwa rather chose to be on the other side of the divide. She buttressed her firm belief in gender inequality with two statements that have set Nigerian Twitter ablaze.
Tiwa Savage made vocal about men being the head of the home (family) and maintained her stance that a woman is not (and should not) in anyway be equated to a man. In her words;
“…I also don’t think men and women are equal. I don’t think that’s how God created us, especially in the household anyway. So I think as females when we realize that yeah we can be strong as femalse in our career and stuff, but when we are home we have to realize that the man is the head of the house.”
She continued however, pointing out that man’s dominion isn’t a yardstick for any woman to dumb down on her efforts to achieving the best of her self. Tiwa said;
“Don’t let being a woman hinder you, I have and still have to fight to get people to respect and appreciate my work and not limit me because I am female so this really encourages me to keep pushing and breaking boundaries.”
While Twitter is having a meltdown over this debate whose result is still tied at a deadlock even on global platforms, recall that Tiwa Savage was recently announced by BBC media as one of the candidates on her top 100 women list for innovative inspiration. There’s also soft chatter relating to her reunion with her husband TeeBillz, after the event of last year to which public spectacle was made of.
Thoughts, anyone?
