Barcelona continued their La Liga title-chase with a 2-0 victory away at Alaves thanks to a double from Lionel Messi (who initially missed a penalty), while Real Sociedad maintained their position at the top of the league with a 3-0 victory over Villareal in the second week of the La Liga round of matches.
Over in Madrid, a Griezmann-less Atletico Madrid defeated Las Palmas 5-1 away with Koke scoring two stunners. While Real Madrid bottled their first match of the season after fighting to salvage a 2-2 draw to Valencia at the Bernabeu. Asensio opened the scoring before Carlos Soler equalised and Kondogbia put Valencia ahead. Asensio then pulled one back for Zidane’s men late in the second half to help Madrid get a 2-2 draw.
