Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has turned down a move to London rivals Chelsea after the Arsenal had agreed on selling him for £40m.
Oxlade-Chamberlain initially wanted to move to Chelsea to play in the centre of the midfield, but with manager Conte’s desire to use him as a wingback, he has decided to turn down the London switch for the more favourable Liverpool switch.
The 24-year-old England international prefers to move to Liverpool instead, and Jurgen Klopp has expressed his desire to sign the Arsenal man.
A bid is expected before Thursday’s transfer deadline, although it will be less than the £40m Chelsea offered.
If Chamberlain doesn’t move this window, he will see out the last year of his contract and move to another club on a free transfer during the summer transfer window in 2018.
Arsenal wants any deal for the former Southampton midfielder completed as quickly as possible.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 198 appearances for Arsenal since joining them from Southampton in August 2011.
